Double Majoring at Barnard
Question: I am in the midst of applying ED to Barnard and this blog has been such a valuable resource! However, I have a few remaining questions pertaining to double majoring at Barnard. I know that people can double major, but is it a common occurrence? If people do double major, are their schedules and course options tightly restricted?
Answer: There is a lot of flexibility within the Barnard curriculum! Many students decide to have two majors (or a major and a minor, or a major and two minors). Oftentimes, classes will count towards your major and towards Foundations requirements. So even though it might look like a lot of classes, you can plan it out to have a class count for two requirements.
However, sometimes two majors will not intersect so neatly. I am a double major in psychology and music, so there is no overlap in classes between my two majors. I often am taking more credits than my friends since I have more classes to complete before I graduate, but that just means I have to plan out my classes in advance. I love that Barnard gives me the opportunity to study both subjects that I am passionate about!
