Favorite Classes & Classes at Columbia

Question: What are some of your favorite classes that you have taken while attending Barnard? Have you taken advantage of attending classes at Columbia in addition to your classes at Barnard?

Answer: My favorite classes that I've taken have probably my film studies classes: Introduction to Film and Media Studies and American Television Drama. They're two classes I never would have considered, but my adviser (who was the professor for both of those classes) encouraged me to take them. I also really enjoyed a class I took last semester on European History Since the French Revolution. For all of these classes, the professor is what truly made the experience enjoyable. The professors I've had while at Barnard have all been extremely knowledgeable in their field and really passionate about teaching; they all make sure their students have a firm understanding of the material, even though these specific classes were lectures with 50+ people in them.

I have taken two Chinese classes at Columbia, which I also really enjoyed (if you're interested in Chinese at all, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend you take it). For me personally, I prefer taking classes here at Barnard, but there are many students who take a majority of their classes at Columbia and many more who have more of a balance between the two campuses. One of my favorite things about the Barnard-Columbia relationship is the flexibility and freedom to choose where you'd like to take your classes each semester.
